Mine Portals, Tunnels, Earth Retaining Walls, Bridges and Culverts

Value Engineering Alternative to Conventional Portal, Bridge and Culvert Structures

We design and supply a wide range of high-quality, cost-effective and easy to install Super•Cor®structures for a wide variety of uses.  Super•Cor®structures are frequently used to:

  1. cross over rivers, streams, roads and railway lines,
  2. serve as access and ventilation tunnels and
  3. provide stormwater solutions.

We provide technical and special design assistance because of our unique experience in the design, installation and analysis of these Super•Cor®structures.  Our goals with Super•Cor®are to:

  • provide practical and cost-effective solutions based on value engineering principles,
  • creating jobs for local communities by following labour intensive construction approaches.

In partnership with one of the world's leading structural steel and aluminium plate manufactures, Atlantic Industries Limited (AIL) of New Brunswick, Canada, we are our proud to offer Super•Cor®structures ensuring lightweight construction, superior strength and excellent durability (through a heavy galvanized coating) while meeting today's environmental concerns.  We offer the following:

  • Bridges, Stream Enclosures and Tunnels
  • Arch culverts with clear spans of up to 26 m
  • Box culverts with clear spans of up to 16 m
  • Various other shapes and sizes including round, pipe-arch and ellipses

Box culverts (open bottom) and arch culverts can provide a sensible, versatile and economic choice for the following applications:

  • Vehicle underpasses
  • Wildlife underpasses
  • Railway underpasses
  • Bridges (vehicle/pedestrian)
  • Access tunnels
  • River and stream crossings
  • Drainage structures

b) Stormwater and Drainage

  • Stormwater culverts (various shapes and sizes)

c) Mining

  • Apart from the wide variety of structures that we design and supply, we also offer unique solutions specifically for the mining industry.  We supply the following high quality cost-effective and durable products to the mining industry:
  • Access tunnels
  • Reclaim tunnels
  • Ventilation ducts
  • Utility and aerial conduits
  • Storage magazines
  • Conveyor covers
  • Mechanically stabilized walls
  • Storm water detention systems

d) Retaining Walls

We design and supply Atlantic Welded Wire Wall systems to compliment our Super•Cor®structures in addition to providing flexible, fast and long lasting embankment retention solutions.  These walls can be supplied with a normal welded wire face, precast concrete face or a CIP concrete face.

e) Atlantic Welded Wire Gabions

We also design and supply Atlantic Welded Wire Gabions (AWWG).  These gabions are strong and lightweight galvanized mesh that allows for machine filling, holds the alignment of the face, and ensures ease of installation. Gabions come in 83 mm x 83 mm galvanized mesh and can be pre-assembled in standard size, site-specific sizes, or field-cut to any size without losing strength.  Pre-assembled units are fastened together with galvanized spirals so no flattening, bending, or folding is required in the field, which saves on installation time and expense.  Assembly of standard units, up to 6 m x 2 m x 1 m, takes only approximately five minutes. Available also in PVC coated galvanized steel.

f) Steel Sheet Piles

We further design and supply “Big R” Steel Sheet Piling, available in several different gauges and lengths. The sheet piles are roll-formed with a continuous, positive interlock. In black or galvanized steel, our product can be used as marine retaining walls to prevent shoreline erosion, as irrigation weirs and culvert headwalls. It can be installed in a wide variety of soil conditions and has the largest section modulus available for comparable lightweight piling, making it stronger and easier to drive – quickly and affordably!

Steel Sheet Piling is ideal for:

  • Marine retaining walls
  • Diversion structures
  • Toe walls & cut-off walls
  • Bridge & culvert headwalls
  • Trench shoring
  • Irrigation weirs

“Big R” can also furnish other items required in retaining wall installations such as deadman anchors, tie rods, fasteners, angle caps, and rub rails.

Revolutionary Super•Cor®

Combining the advantages of lightweight construction with the superior strength and durability of galvanized structural steel, Super•Cor® provides the strongest, most versatile and economical corrugation in the market.  Super•Cor®’s larger annular corrugation provides nine times the stiffness of conventional structural plate, permitting construction of the largest, longest and widest spans.  State-of-the-art design based on the principles of soil-structure interaction ensures value-engineering portal, bridge and tunnel alternatives even for the heaviest vehicle loads.  Super•Cor® offers durable, fast, cost-effective, versatile environmentally responsible, maintenance free and aesthetically pleasing structures worldwide.

Durability

Super•Cor® is supplied with a heavy galvanized coating (910g/m2) that is metallurgically bonded to the steel surface, providing extended service life.  A even heavier 1220g/m2 coating is also available, that is at least 50% greater than normally required.  Properly designed and installed Super•Cor® structures will last over 100 years.

Ease of Installation

Super•Cor® lightweight modular panels can be shipped easily and economically, especially to remote locations. The panels can be assembled adjacent to the job site, then moved into place using light equipment.  This means reduced construction time (i.e., road closure) and lower costs to the owner.
